Vinh Pham’s Home Screen

Hi, I’m Vinh Pham, and I’m a retired marketer from Southern California. Here’s my home screen.

Full disclosure: I kept a stock or relatively stock home screen since purchasing my first iPhone a little over four years ago. iOS 5.0 has made things a bit too cluttered for my taste, and the discovery of Swipe the Linen has finally motivated me to rethink my organization system.

I’ve tried quite a few different list/note apps, such as Notesy, Awesome Note, Todo and a few others, but I’ve always found my way back to Evernote. I like to use it for lists, notes, keeping inventory, and clipping websites. My favorite feature of the app is the desktop client that allows me to make big edits on my Mac and sync the entries between devices. Wunderlist is my go-to list making app, which I use primarily for shopping lists. There’s also a desktop client, which is a staple on my computer.

Both Instacast and Tweetbot are new additions in the past week. Tweetbot really is the best twitter client available. My favorite part of the app, oddly enough, is the robotic chirp that alerts you to new tweets. The jury is still out on Instacast at the time of this post, but I’ve had a fairly positive experience using it to follow my favorite podcasts.

The last app I want to mention is Star Walk, which isn’t on my home screen. Using the iPhone’s gyroscope and accelerometer, Star Walk allows me to point my phone up toward the sky to determine the location of various constellations, planets, and satellites. Follow Twisst on twitter and you will receive tweets informing you when the International Space Station passes by your area. (Pro tip: Make sure you have the correct location set in your twitter profile.)

I’m always curious to see what apps other people like to use. Swipe the Linen is a great way to find new gems to fiddle with when I’m awkwardly trying to look important in a social setting. You can find me on tumblr and flickr, so please stop by to see what I’m up to.
